National Presbyterian Evangelism Conference
Is anybody going to the National Presbyterian Evangelism Conference?
I’m trying to decide whether or not to go. My task force this fall is studying the local mission field and how visitors are handled by our church. I figured it might make sense to get a bit more grounding in evangelism beforehand. On the other hand, it makes more sense to send the next group – the people who will be implementing any of our recommendations that the session adopts (and I may or may not be part of that group).

I will not be going to this one, but I have been to variations in the past and have always found something to take from the events. I think going as a team is a great idea as it provides some outside voices to help push edges or affirm current postures. I think if you have a commitmented group of folks, go now while seeds are more easily planted.
Well, the pastor and I agree that this isn’t the time to take the WHOLE team to this. We’re just the study group – the next team is the implementation group.
And we don’t have a committed group yet – the pastor who was excited about getting the team together before summer so far only has 2 members of the group (one of whom is me). I don’t know if he just hasn’t worked on filling the team, of if he’s having trouble doing so. I suppose I should ask about that.
Hey Mark,
I would really like to hear your thoughts about evangelism in the experience of an introvert. Have you found things that work well and feel natural?
Adam
Adam,
I’ll get back to you on that. I’ll probably write a whole post on it.
In my case, evangelism is complicated by both my introvert nature AND my belief that nobody can know what the True Faith is. If I can’t be sure that I’m right about my beliefs, then how can I push them on others?
Just to update anybody who finds this – I’m not going.
It’s a combination of not quite being relevant to my current work, a lack of enthusiasm for church-related stuff at the moment, and saving vacation days.
Tell me what you're thinking...
