Spirit of America is a charity that funds small projects that help Americans overseas improve people’s lives. Currently, they are working primarily in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A new project has been started by the US 1st Marine Division to build and equip 7 television stations in the Al Anbar province of Iraq. That province contains Fallujah and Ramadi. The purpose of the project is to offset the negative bias against the US provided by current Arab media in the area (notably Al-Jazeera).

More details can be found at the link above. I’m giving some money – I suggest that you do as well!

The Command Post has received one report that Shiite Cleric Muqtada Al-Sadr has been captured by US forces. I’ve also seen this listed on Pravda’s website and one Bulgarian website.

Al-Sadr is reportedly the head of the organization that has been carrying out the organized and armed resistance in places like Fallujah and Najaf recently.

US Flag

Electric Venom suggests that we fly a flag on our blogs to show our support for the US military’s on-going campaign to stop the violence in Fallujah, Iraq. An Islamic cleric Al-Sadr is trying to derail peace in Iraq by having his followers take over police stations and fight Iraqi Police and the military.

Here’s my contribution.

We need to finish this in Iraq. It would be wrong to leave them in chaos, without the help that they will need to develop democracy and ensure basic human rights that are new to them after so many years under Saddam.

A Monkey’s First Banana

Chief Wiggles posts a new story of his visit to a US elementary school to receive toys for kids in Iraq.

My favorite quote:

At one point, as I tried to help the students understand what it might feel like for the Iraqi children to get their very first toy, I asked the question, and the following response caused me to laugh with astonishment. In the Kindergarten class, Colonel Long’s own son responded by saying, “I am sure it would be like a monkey getting his very first banana?” How true.

If you haven’t ever checked out his site, or Operation Give, you really should. The Chief is an Army National Guard officer from Utah who started a charity while in Iraq to give toys and school supplies to Iraqi children.
